Environmental responsibility and social value at Craxel. Last updated: 6 August 2026
Our commitment
Craxel is committed to minimising our environmental impact and operating in a sustainable manner. We recognise our responsibility to protect the environment for current and future generations.
Our approach
As a software company our direct environmental footprint is relatively limited. We focus our effort where we can make a real difference:
Energy efficiency. Selecting cloud infrastructure providers that prioritise renewable energy and carbon neutral operations.
Remote and flexible working. Supporting flexible and remote working to reduce commuting emissions.
Sustainable procurement. Considering environmental factors when selecting suppliers and partners.
Waste reduction. Minimising waste through digital first operations and recycling.
Travel. Minimising business travel through video conferencing and other collaboration tools.
Efficiency in what we build
The largest environmental contribution we can make is through the software itself. Conventional data platforms partition data across large server clusters, and the compute required grows with the size of the data set. Black Forest decouples data access cost from data set size and serves low latency access from low cost storage, which can reduce the compute, operating cost and associated energy used by as much as 90% compared with traditional approaches.
As data volumes continue to grow across the economy, reducing the energy needed to organise and query that data is a meaningful contribution to lowering the environmental cost of digital infrastructure.
Social value
In line with the principles of the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012, we seek to deliver wider social, economic and environmental benefits through our work, including:
Supporting local employment and skills development, with a technical team based in Belfast.
Promoting diversity and inclusion in our workforce and our recruitment.
Engaging with small and medium sized enterprises in our supply chain.
Supporting community initiatives and, as a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, the armed forces community.
Continuous improvement
We review our environmental performance regularly and look for opportunities to improve. We welcome feedback and suggestions from customers, suppliers and other stakeholders at info@craxel.com.
